During America’s leading hydrogen event #H2Americas2024 Summit & Exhibition, we spoke to global and regional #hydrogen and #energy leaders about the future outlook for the hydrogen industry, including an interview with Makini Byron, Director, Clean Energy Business Development, Linde.
“My name is Makini Byron I’m a Director of Clean Energy Business Development at Linde.
We were talking about the future role of hydrogen in decarbonization, so some of the things that I brought up had to do with how the carbon intensity of hydrogen is so much more important than the method of productions, so at Linde we focus on how we can reduce the carbon footprint of the hydrogen that we produce, less so on whether it’s on electrolysis or steam methane reforming with carbon capture or any other method as long as we can help achieve some of those decarbonization goals.
It depends on the regions where it’s being produced and utilized, I mean I think that, rightly so, regions will be trying to promote the resources that they have most abundant as the main method of production for hydrogen and so you may see some policies skewing one way or the other. But we think that all of the above should be the strategy that we use when it comes to decarbonization as long as we can achieve those carbon reduction strategies.
The Hydrogen Americas Summit is very important for us to attend every year because of the footprint that we have in the U.S. when it comes to hydrogen plans, and the impact that we think that we can have on helping the U.S. to achieve their climate goals. We come here to interact with potential partners, potential customers, and enable decarbonization as much as we can for the U.S.
We had a lot of traffic come to our booth and so I think we had a lot of productive conversations, we collected a lot of new contacts and we hope to follow up on that after the conference to see if we can do projects together and move things forward.”
