During the sell-out Summit of the 2022 Hydrogen Americas Summit, we spoke to global and regional #hydrogen and #energy leaders about the future outlook for the hydrogen industry, including an interview with Michael Perschke, CEO of Quantron.
What message did you share with the audience?
Well our message is that Europe is starting the hydrogen economy, I think U.S. is more or less on the same bandwagon, using hydrogen not just for zero emission but using it as a new source of energy to become more independent of fossil fuels, and we have just launched at Hanover at the IAA our class defining, U.S. class A truck for Europe we have a ranged champion in Europe 1500km on a single fuel, we have announced a strategic partnership with ballad power from Canada, and based on all the experience we gained, we said the U.S. market is ready for our solutions. So, we don’t want to miss the train and come here and not leave a fuel to the competition.
Where do you see the green hydrogen market 5 years from now?
I think there are multiple layers, I think for the next 12 to 18 months, it’s still a lot of education about the subject, I think there’s a lot of misperception, people don’t fully understand it, I think people get confused with all the colors, I think first we need to give the user the, the brand, a clear message, hydrogen powered heavy duty long distance trucking is a real alternative to diesel trucks, and it has a niche where it’s also better than an electric truck, because you have less rare resources in regards of battery capacity, you have no grid limitations because you’re not charging your fueling, green hydrogen I think on the summits there’s lots of opportunities of projects wanting to produce green hydrogen in the future. I think we have a chicken and egg problem. I see currently there’s more possibilities for production of green hydrogen when there’s actually uptake, and this is where we want to come in and we want to give brands a commitment that by 24, 25, we can offer on a TCO basis the total cost of ownership, a truck very close to a diesel truck for long distance heavy duty application.
Why is this summit important?
We are new kid on the block right? People don’t know Quantron, so it’s making our name known, connecting to the right players, being at Department of Energy, being at investors, being uptakers, being clients, and we are also here tomorrow at the German embassy, and we’re going to sign a significant deal, by the time you will air it it’s official we’re going to sign 500 fuel cell trucks which we will operate with our investment partner for listed steel company on a TCO basis and offer them score free reduction. And so we thought it’s a good platform to communicate, make ourself heard and visible, and yeah have it kind of a one stop shop. You meet many stakeholders in one place, otherwise you would need to travel around the country maybe for two, three, four weeks. So I think, for us it’s a very time efficient and impactful event.
How is this hydrogen revolution affecting your business?
Our business because we are a company which only does zero emissions transport solutions, we do electric and hydrogen. So for us it’s our core, for us it’s the new normal, we call it the new normal is zero emission for us, whether it’s last mile or whether it’s heavy duty transport, so we are excited about it.
