The Port of Rotterdam manages and develops the port and industrial area of Rotterdam. With an annual throughput of 468 million tons, the port of Rotterdam is the largest in Europe and is one of the leading ports in the world. The area contributes around USD 45 billion in added value accounting for 8.2% of Netherlands’ GDP.
Edwin van Espen has been working in several technical and managerial functions in the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, the Port of Sohar in Oman and in Porto Central in Brazil. Currently he is working for Port of Rotterdam as manager new energy corridors. One of the main developments is the Delta Rhine Corridor which is an international project initiated by private and public parties. The main goal is to develop several pipelines for hydrogen, CO2 and potentially ammonia between the port of Rotterdam and industrial clusters in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. The project is of strategic importance for North-western Europe as it will contribute to increased competitiveness and reaching climate goals.
